The latest medical devices “that can change the world and how we live” will be on view at MEDi 2008 (www.MEDi2008.com), the comprehensive medical device conference and exhibition set for the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, September 9-10.

Speaking about the event created and produced by his association, Joseph Bronzino PhD, PE, president of BEACON – the Biomedical Engineering Alliance & Consortium (www.BeaconAlliance.org) – said, “MEDi 2008 will showcase advancements designed to improve the way we live our day-to-day lives.

Bringing New Medical Devices to Market

"MEDi 2008 spotlights advancements in medical devices and helps innovators bring their products to market – the sooner the better – to save and change lives," he said. “Medical devices emerged and evolved in the second half of the 20th Century to become factors in everyday life in the U.S. and around the world,” pointing out x-ray, CAT scan and MRI machines, pace-maker, heart by-pass machine, artificial hips and knees, robotic surgery, the SMAC multi-analysis computer, incubators and hearing aids as “the tip of the medical device iceberg.

"The future is even more exciting, as will be demonstrated at MEDi 2008," Dr. Bronzino said. "Industry leaders and venture firms will have a first look at products ready to go to market." Included will be: personalized medicine devices, which analyze genetics to determine medications for individuals; bionanotechnology; tissue engineering; advanced biomaterials for polymers and bone growth; computerized patient medical records for diagnostics, innovative combination products and drug-delivery systems; miniature electronics for diagnosis; neurostimulation to help prevent epilepsy; pediatric engineering products such as implantable glucose sensors for infants and artificial organs.

'A Unique, Boutique Event for the Medical Device Industry'

Dr. Bronzino called MEDi 2008 "a unique, boutique event for the medical device industry. At MEDi, medical device industry professionals will find that this is ‘their conference, their show, their event right in the geographic heart of the industry."
