Connecticut Governor Rell Salutes MEDi 2008 Conference
and Exhibition, Proclaiming September 9th
'New Medical Technology
Innovation Day'

The Biomedical
Engineering Alliance & Consortium (BEACON) announced
today that Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell has
proclaimed Tuesday, September 9, 2008 as “New Medical
Technology Innovation Day” in the state of Connecticut
in recognition of the MEDi 2008
Medical Device Industry Conference and Exhibition at the
Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.
MEDi 2008 will be held
September 9-10, showcasing the latest developments in
nanomedicine, drug delivery vehicles, drug/device
combination products, robotic surgery, orthopedic
implants and prosthetic devices, artificial organs and
eHealth. The MEDi conference will address timely
issues and business challenges related to the
manufacture and commercialization of these devices.
“Connecticut is fortunate to have the skills and
resources of many dedicated professionals committed to
advancing the quality of healthcare,” said Governor Rell.
“Here, medical technology is constantly advancing
through the collaboration of scientists, medical
personnel, entrepreneurs and academics whose innovative
medical inventions improve health delivery systems and
provide vital services to the medical, pharmaceutical
and biotechnology communities.”
Noting that leaders of the medical device industry from
throughout the U.S. and the world will come to Hartford
for the two-day event, Governor Rell saluted
MEDi 2008 for “highlighting the latest
medical devices, biotechnology, manufacturing,
bioengineering and bionanotechnology instrumentation.
“The designation of September 9th as New Medical
Technology Innovation Day” recognizes the significant
contributions medical technology makes to the health of
our people,” she said.
BEACON President Dr. Joseph Bronzino thanked Governor
Rell “for recognizing MEDi 2008
and the important role it plays in Connecticut and in
the global medical device industry.”
